We separated water into four different types:
1) soft water, 2) normal water, 3) hard water, 4) bad water
What is the difference between soft/hard and/or bad water and what can be done about it?
The EC value of soft water is less than 0.4. With CANNA CALMAG AGENT it is possible to increase the EC value up to 0.4.
Normal water has an EC value of 0.4 to 0.5.
Contains calcium, magnesium and bicarbonates to stabilize pH. CANNA TERRA and COCO Basic Nutrients are designed to work optimally in this type of water.
Hard water (EC>0.5) contains more calcium and magnesium than plants can handle.
If you are growing plants, the best way to treat this type of water is to use a reverse osmosis filter and then treat the hard water with an R.O. Water until the EC is 0.4.
Bad water (EC>0.5) contains mainly sodium and chloride.
These two elements interfere with the absorption of beneficial nutrients and can be toxic to plants.
A reverse osmosis (R.O) filter can be used to remove both of these elements.
Simply mixing bad water and R.O.
Water to an EC of 0.4 produces enough bicarbonate to stabilize the pH, but the calcium and magnesium levels are too low.
Mix RO and tap water until EC is 0.2, then add CANNA CALMAG AGENT until EC is 0.4.
CANNA CALMAG AGENT is a special concentrate for buffering soft water. Available for all media.
Instructions for use in buffered soft water
- Shake well in front of you.
- Fill the nutrient reservoir with water (20-22°C).
- Add 0.1-0.5 ml per liter of CANNA CALMAG AGENT until the EC reaches 0.4 mS/cm. In addition to this water, use the normally recommended nutrients and additives.
